Berries, Ferns, and Pesto

S brought berries from the farmer's market in Novato.

Look at the cool golden raspberries. They are gorgeous, not quite as sweet as the reds.

Mia has been snacking on them all afternoon.

The weather is still strange. Overcast today but dry. Warm still. Maiden Hair Ferns are hard to grow but ever since we moved it into the kitchen, it's perked up quite a bit. It needs more sun than I thought; see it leaning toward the light...

One of Mia's favorite green foods is pesto. Basil has been plentiful and on sale at the market as of late. I whipped up a simple pesto yesterday and we had it mixed up in spaghetti for lunch today-yum!

Jamie's Simple Pesto

Toss in the blender, the leaves of a bunch of basil. Throw in 1-2 garlic cloves, and a few tablespoons of olive oil. Turn it on and stream in more oil until you get a wet paste. Grate fresh Parmesan and add it to the mixture, season to taste with salt and freshly ground pepper. Pulse a couple times to incorporate.

This really is easy. My mom used to make this for me every summer, it was and is always a favorite. I eyeball everything so just make it to your taste. You can always whirl in some pine nuts or walnuts if you have them.
